Did The Dursleys Have A Reason For Being Shockingly Awful Caregivers? A ‘Harry Potter’ Fan Has A Good Theory

Harry Melling with film parents Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw

A Harry Potter fan has come to the defense of the truly horrible Dursleys with a theory that’s brilliant because it seems so simple and obvious — why didn’t anyone think of it sooner? The theory, outlined on Tumblr, talks about what might have caused the Dursley’s inhumane treatment of Harry.

“…[the] Dursleys were just minding their own business when a horcrux was dumped on their doorstep. For the next decade it proceeded to warp their minds. Turning them from your garden variety insufferable human beings into horrible, heartless monsters. The fact that they survived such prolonged horcrux exposure without delving into insanity or abandoning a helpless child only solidifies their place among the pantheon of noble and virtuous heroes in the Harry Potter universe.”

Though it may seem like an epiphany and it certainly casts the family in a nicer light, it’s not without it’s problems. If we go with the idea that Harry, as a horcrux, would negatively effect the people around him, just like the necklace they carry around during the last book/final movie — why were the Weasleys always so nice to him? Why weren’t the other students at Hogwarts lining up to give him a beating on a regular basis? Sure he had some enemies but he also had a lot of friends who were very much behind him.Apparently though, the fan who wrote the theory, added a proviso, probably knowing that it might be taken seriously.

“Allow me to state for the record that the above description was intended to be read as satire. I do not honestly believe Harry is responsible for the abuse he suffered, nor do I seriously consider the Dursleys to be noble and virtuous heroes.”

But that’s the thing about Harry Potter lovers — they rival any fandom for their passion. A testament to the strength of J.K. Rowling’s story about a boy who finds out he’s part of a bigger, more fantastical world than he ever dreamed. And because of this insatiable appetite for the world of Harry Potter, fan fiction, sarcasm, and theories about the solutions to mysteries that remain open to interpretation are going to be a never-ending kind of black hole.

What Culture wrote a piece outlining seven of the crazier ones, but here’s just a few.

  • It’s all in Harry’s head.
  • Harry is the reincarnation of King Arthur.
  • J.K. Rowling isn’t a real person.

An Inquisitr story reported another fan argument, that maybe Hogwarts was simply an insane asylum.

Then there are the ones, like the speculation about the Dursleys, that make you look at the story in a different way. Maybe the Deathly Hallows anecdote isn’t just a story about three brothers but also a tale that has close ties to Voldemort, Snape and Harry?

Then there’s the heart-wrenching video that YouTube user kcawesome13 put together that has the important Snape scenes in chronological order — not technically a fan premise but something that completely shifts how you feel about a character that gets falsely painted with a pure evil brush. The point is that when an artist creates a world that seems to live and breathe, it draws people in and calls on them to interact with it in whatever way will keep it alive for them. And that can’t be such a bad thing.

DEADPOOL Set Photos and Videos – Deadpool Takes on Colossus

Fan Made Poster by CAMW1N

Some more photos from the set of Deadpool have surfaced, and they feature Ryan Reynolds and his stunt-double in costume taking on Colossus. Or at least a giant man named Andre Tricoteux dressed up in a motion-capture suit, who will be replaced by a CGI Colossus in the final product. There are also shots of Ed Skrein as Ajax and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Some of the photos may contain SPOILERS, so I wouldn’t look or read any further if you’re not in to the whole spoiler thing.

One of the scenes shows Deadpool being dragged by Colossus, who he’s handcuffed to alongside Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Deadpool tries to escape by what looks like cutting off his own hand. Then in another scene it seems there might be a fatal conclusion to a sword battle between Deadpool and Ajax.

Awesomely Fierce Call of Duty: Black Ops III Reveal Trailer

Activision and Treyarch have finally unleashed the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The trailer is intense and action-packed, and if you’re a fan of this video game franchise there’s a good chance that you’re going to love what you see. I’ve had a blast playing the Call of Duty: Black Ops games, and this next chapter looks utterly insane. There’s no doubt that we’ll learn more about the game at the E3 Expo, which takes place in June. Hopefully we’ll get some hands on gameplay action.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will thrust players into a dark, gritty future, where cybernetics and biotechnology have given rise to a new breed of soldier. Empowered by Direct Neural Interface (DNI) technology, players will assume the role of Black Ops soldiers that are interconnected, faster, and more lethal than ever in a new four-player co-op campaign and a completely redefined multiplayer experience.

With a new momentum-based, chained movement system that allows players to move fluidly through environments and maintain constant control of their weapon, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is packed with new multiplayer features. In addition to a new weapon customization system that lets players create unique weapon variants, Call of Duty: Black Ops III introduces the new Specialist system, which lets players choose and rank up nine elite Black Ops soldiers, each with their own unique look, personality, backstory, and devastating weapons and abilities.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be Black Ops without Treyarch’s signature Zombies. While more info will arrive later this year, Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s Zombies will feature its own unique story and XP progression system, adding new levels of depth and replayability.

Activision also confirmed that players who pre-order the game will be given access to the multiplayer beta, which you can learn more about by clicking here.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III launches on Friday, November 6th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

TRANSFORMERS 5 Expected in 2017. Cinematic Universe Confirmed

A few weeks ago, I wrote a rant about how Paramount was reportedly planning on creating a shared cinematic universe for the Transformers films under the creative control of Batman & Robin screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. It was still just rumored at that point, but according to a shareholder call from Hasbro that took place earlier today, it’s now been confirmed as their strategy moving forward.

ComingSoon has the relevant quotes:

“Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired,” Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro, says. “We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman] to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers – we think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.”

It’s unclear whether Goldner means that production will begin in 2017 or that the film will be released in 2017, but either way, this is confirmation of Goldsman’s writer’s room concept and confirmation that Paramount is indeed putting infrastructure in place for this franchise to continue to expand over the new few years. Like I said in my initial rant, it’s hard to fault them from a business perspective since these movies make serious money, but creatively, you’d be hard-pressed to find a worse movie than Transformers: Age of Extinction when looking at high-budget films of that ilk. We can only hope that the new brain trust has enough time to come up with a decent script before moving into production on this new movie. Mark Wahlberg has signed on for multiple sequels to Age of Extinction, and Michael Bay is expected to return behind the camera.

How ‘GTA 5’ Can Be The Next ‘Skyrim’ On PC

gta-5-aNow that GTA 5 has made it to PC at long (long, long) last, many players are finding that the port was worth the wait. The game runs fantastically well and seems to be the culmination of everything Rockstar has learned since the original launch of the title back on last-gen consoles and the new-gen re-release since.

What’s really happened, however, is that Grand Theft Auto has given players their biggest, most fleshed-out open world playground since The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, which remains a PC favorite to this day.

Obviously, the two settings couldn’t be more disparate. One is a fantasy landscape of swords, sorcery and dragons, the other is a modern day parody of southern California focused on crime, corruption and shootouts with gang members and cops alike. But both share a common achievement, as each has arguably the most in-depth open world of their era.

But one thing could be standing in GTA’s way, something that could prevent it from having the kind of longevity as Skyrim. The seeming reluctance of Rockstar to support mods.

Skyrim, as a vanilla game, already comes baked in with potentially hundreds of hours of exploration. But the game has really thrived throughout the past few years because of an enormous modding community that has refined, tweaked or outright broken the game in every way imaginable. There are mods to allow you to see the individual fibers of fabric on a tunic, and there are mods that allow you to replace all dragons in the game with Thomas the Tank engine. The spectrum is wide, and it is true definition of a sandbox where anything is possible.

GTA 5 certainly allows players to explore the countryside, but you won’t stumble into the sort of bottomless dungeons you can encounter in Skyrim, nor will you create a dozen different characters with different specialties. Rather, Rockstar wants to herd players into an alternate sort of endgame, GTA Online.

It’s been around since the launch on consoles, but after a rocky start involving a number of exploits, followed by nearly eternal silence about online heists, it finally seems ready for primetime as a mini-MMO with reach on PCs the world over now.

It’s not just Rockstar’s goal to keep players engaged until the inevitable release of GTA 6 a few years down the line, but they want it to be a persistent moneymaking vehicle for them, as the mode allows players to purchase game cash for real cash, and blow it on everything from weapons to clothes to real estate. It’s a little like The Sims, with a lot more death and destruction.

That’s well and good, but the focus on GTA Online seems to be dissuading Rockstar from being supportive of mods. Here’s Gamespot asking Rockstar North about mods:

Modding took off for GTA IV PC. What are you doing to support modding for V? Is there anything within the game that supports it?

“Since GTA Online has such a massive and vibrant community, our primary focus is making sure that nothing detracts from that experience or has a negative impact on the overall community of players.”

And…that’s it. It’s a rather brusque response to arguably the thing the community is most interested in when it comes to the PC release of the game. GTA IV had some truly incredible mods, and again, huge sandbox games like Skyrim achieve utter immortality through mods, and in that case Bethesda handed players the tools to get started.

Rockstar wants you to play in its sandbox, but first and foremost using their rigid set of rules. I understand the impulse to protect players from online-invading mods that make GTA Online unplayable, but down the line, once things get settled, hopefully Rockstar comes around and offers the game the full mod support it deserves.

It’s not as if mods won’t exist for the game regardless of what Rockstar does. The technically talented are already crafting simple mods for the game like FOV sliders and infinite ammo/no death cheats. But so far, response from a few figures in the dedicated modding community has been somewhat pessimistic, as Kotaku reports.

Hopefully there’s a middleground here. One where players who want everything on the level can play GTA Online as it was intended. And another where there’s an “anything goes” zone where players can go as crazy as they want to modifying Los Santos and its surrounding countryside. Hopefully someone is drafting a mod as we speak that replaces all police cars with Thomas the Tank engine.

Dominic Cooper confirmed to star in AMC’s PREACHER

Producer Seth Rogen has confirmed that Dominic Cooper is officially set to star as Jesse Custer in AMC’s pilot for Preacher. It was reported last month that Cooper was the network’s top choice to take on the role, and it’s awesome to see that everything worked out. I really wanted to see Cooper in the role of Jesse.

The series is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s ‘90s comic book series, and it follows Reverend Jesse Custer, “a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, and has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned his responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making him answer for his dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers —a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.”

The pilot is scheduled to start production this summer, and will most likely be released sometime in 2016. Rogen and Evan Goldberg are set to direct.

Cooper most recently appeared in Marvel’s Agent Carter as a young Howard Stark, who was first introduced to us in Captain America: First Avenger. He’ll next be seen on the big screen in Duncan Jones‘ 2016 fantasy epic Warcraft.

Live Action ATTACK on Titan Movie has a Thrilling New Trailer

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming live-action Attack on Titan movie, and it’s pretty freakin’ spectacular. It seems like some Attack on Titan fans out there are torn on this big screen adaptation, but I think it looks like it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun! This trailer gives us our best look yet at what’s in store for us, and I love what I’m seeing! I have to say, I enjoyed watching the reactions of the characters as they watch in horror as someone gets eat by a Titan.

The story of Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world’s population to staggeringly low numbers. The 3 main protagonists of Isayama’s manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a “Colossal Titan” breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to thee death of Eren’s mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls.  Haruma Miura plays Eren. Kiko Mizuhara is Mikasa. Kanata Hongo will play Armin. Satomi Ishihara portrays Hanji. Nanami Sakuraba is Sasha. Takahiro Miura is Jean.

This trailer is for the first of two Attack on Titan movies. They were directed by Shinji Higuchi, and Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama consulted on them. He helped create some new characters and enemies for the story that will stay true to the source material.

The first film will be released August 1st, and the second will hit theaters a month later on September 19th in Japan. I’m sure it will eventually make its way to the states. Below the teaser I also provided a translation of what is said in the the trailer.

MAGGIE Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

This is the first poster for the horror zombie drama Maggie. The movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a midwestern farmer who is trying to protect his daughter (Abigail Breslin) after she becomes infected by a zombie virus that is threatening the world.

The movie was directed by Henry Hobson, and it looks like a refreshingly compelling zombie drama that is unlike many of the other zombie projects we are seeing developed today.

New JURASSIC WORLD poster features the MOSASAURUS

The second of three Jurassic World posters has been released, and it features the behemoth Mosasaurus about to eat a tiny looking great white shark. Yesterday a poster was released that showed Bryce Dallas Howard‘s character coming face to face with the genetically enhanced Indominus Rex dino.

The poster all lead to a new trailer for the film set to be released this coming Monday, so stay tuned for that. I’m sure it’s going to be awesome! The question is, will it bas as awesome as the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Directed by Colin Trevorrow , Jurassic World also stars Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, BD Wong and Irrfan Khan.

The park opens on June 12th.

Minecraft exploit that made it easy to crash servers gets patched

Microsoft Mojang Minecraft

It turns out that for the past two years, you could crash a Minecraft server pretty easily. A security researcher published the exploit Thursday and said he first discovered it in version 1.6.2 back in July 2013, which is almost two years ago. He claims Mojang ignored him and did nothing to fix the problem, despite his repeated attempts at following standard protocol and contacting the company in private.

“This vulnerability exists on almost all previous and current minecraft versions as of 1.8.3; the packets used as attack vectors are the 0x08: Block Placement Packet and 0x10: Creative Inventory Action,” Ammar Askar wrote. The exploit takes advantage of the way a Minecraft server decompresses and parses data, and causes it to generate “several million Java objects including ArrayLists,” running out of memory and pegging CPU load in the process.

“The fix for this vulnerability isn’t exactly that hard, [as] the client should never really send a data structure as complex as NBT of arbitrary size and if it must, some form of recursion and size limits should be implemented. These were the fixes that I recommended to Mojang 2 years ago.” Askar posted a proof of concept of the exploit to GitHub that he says has been tested with Python 2.7. Askar has since updated his blog post twice after finally making contact with Mojang. What he says essentially confirms that the company either didn’t test a claimed fix against his proof of concept, or lied about having one in the first place.

Today, it looks like Mojang has responded (at least indirectly) to the post with a patch. The company announced today that it is releasing version 1.8.4: “This release fixes a few reported security issues, in addition to some other minor bug fixes & performance tweaks.”

The release notes make no direct mention of the exploit Askar wrote about, and comments are closed on the post. But notably, two of the fixes listed are Bug MC-79079, “Malicious clients can force a server to freeze,” and Bug MC-79612, “Malicious clients can force a server to go out memory [sic]:”

Microsoft Mojang Minecraft security patch

At the time of this writing, Askar has yet to update his blog post a third time acknowledging the patch and/or commenting on whether it fixes the exploit.

Back in September, Microsoft announced it was buying Mojang for $2.5 billion, with company founder Notch moving on something new. The game is available on all major platforms, including PC, Mac, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Amazon Kindle Fire.

SUCHA, Poland (AP) — At a 13th-century castle in Poland, wizards and witches are sneaking through the halls and stone staircases of the College of Wizardry that opened this weekend for Harry Potter’s devotees.

In their magic cloaks and wielding wands, some 140 wizardry fans from Europe and the U.S. are studying witchcraft and potions in the live action role-playing game at the Hogwarts-like Czocha Castle in southwestern Poland.

From Thursday to Sunday, participants will live an academic life similar to that of the students and professors of Hogwarts, enacting an original scenario inspired by J.K. Rowlings’ saga about the young wizard.

However, the game — the third such one held here since November — does not follow the book’s characters or story line, and organizers stress it is not connected to the Potter franchise.

“I always wanted to be able to create living worlds, like book writers do or film actors,” said Dominik Dembinski of Polish group Liveform, which organized the event along with Denmark’s Rollespilsakademiet, which translates as Role Playing Academy. He added that he wanted the participants to “have some influence over it.”

“You want to be a part of this feeling” in this “simulation of a world,” he said.

Ahead of the game, the castle’s dining halls were hung with colorful banners, the tables laid with white cloths for collective meals. Secret passage ways were opened, leading to classrooms, laboratories and to other mysterious places. The participants were practicing their roles, mixing “potions” and testing their wands.

“My strategy is to put the independence of (the) college before anything else, “said Elge Larsson of Norway, as he was getting into his role of Headmaster Arrok Trantiforus. “I am afraid we will have some interference from the Polish Ministry of Magic. I will fight them nail and tooth.”

All made their way beneath archways and into the courtyard, where they received game instructions from tactics of combat to safety.

“When the character starts living in the flesh … and you have no idea where you are coming or where you are ending up, nothing beats it,” Larsson said.

Similar games inspired by the British TV series “Downton Abbey” and the legend of Robin Hood are planned this year.

Personality Quiz: Which ‘Harry Potter’ Villain Are You?

The 'Harry Potter' Rotters (Pic: Warners)

Most personality quizzes are fairly even-handed affairs. You could be one sort of a thing in a list (Beatle, emotion, root vegetable) or you could be another, and they’re all roughly the same.

This quiz is not like that. It’s more like walking into a roomful of mousetraps, one of which is connected to a thermonuclear warhead.

By which I mean, there is one Harry Potter villain in this quiz that is worse than all the others, and you may need to consider some kind of hex to prevent finding out that you were secretly him all along.

Wands at the ready? Let’s play:

Emma Watson: ‘Harry Potter’ Actress Turns 25 – Happy Birthday

Emma Watson Birthday

We don’t know the spell to summon a cake, so let us just play it safe and say Happy Birthday! Emma Watson turns 25-years-old on April 15, 2015. In just a quarter of-a-century, Emma has accomplished more than most get done in a lifetime. Let’s help honor Emma’s special day by taking a look back at her amazing year!

Emma Watson’s Birthday: ‘Harry Potter’ Star & Activist Turns 25

Wow! Over the last twelve months, Emma has done a lot of good while looking good!

She kicked off her fashionable year with a stunning appearance on the cover of the April 2014 Elle Australia issue. Emma sported a sleek retro look, invoking 1950’s glamour on this modern day starlet.

While Emma isn’t technically royalty, she’s came pretty close  — literally! — when she joined Prince William and Kate Middleton for dinner at Windsor Castle in May 2014.

If there’s one thing that could top dinner with the British Monarchy, it had to be this: graduating from Brown University! Emma completed her degree in English Literature on May 25, 2014. Congratulations to Emma!

While at the July 2014 Dior fashion show in Paris, Emma looked fierce, as usual. Suddenly, her friend Jennifer Lawrence came up and face-palmed her! Was it good fun or bad taste? Either way, these two seemed to get a laugh out of it.

Arguably Emma’s biggest moment of 2014 came in September. Emma was appointed a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador. She then delivered an intense speech on ending gender inequality throughout the world. Along with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Emma helped launch the HeForShe campaign with the goal of including more boys and men in the fight for equality.

Emma also campaigned for HeForShe at the 2015 World Economic Forum on January 23, 2015. Emma reported the positive initial response to the program, before stressing the need for additional efforts to end gender inequality, once and for all.

Emma’s HeForShe work reportedly led to an interesting event in her love-life. While she was being honored for her humanitarian efforts at the British Fashion Awards in December 2014, Emma seemed a bit star-struck by the award’s presenter, Harry Styles. Fans nearly exploded at the thought of these two adorable Brits dating. Their wish was granted, because Emma and Harry allegedly went on a secret date later that month.

While Emma and Harry ultimately didn’t work out, she reportedly went from British Music Royalty to actual British Royalty, as she and Prince Harry were reportedly dating. Emma went on to dispel these reports, saying that she doesn’t need a Prince in order to be a Princess.

2015 holds a lot of potential for Emma. In addition to her ongoing humanitarian work, she’s starring in two movies set for release this year: Colonia and Regression. Emma’s role in Regression is a drastic step away from the Harry Potter world, as she plays a girl who has been sexually abused by her father.

Still, there’s some fantasy in Emma’s professional life. She will play the role of Belle in the live-action remake of Disney’s Beauty & The Beast!

Join us in wishing Emma Watson a Happy Birthday, HollywoodLifers! Leave your birthday wishes below!

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Teaser

Director Zack Snyder released a teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice through his Twitter, and simultaneously confirmed earlier reports that special IMAX screenings of the full trailer are being held on April 20th. The video is 21-seconds long, the majority of which are logos, and features Superman and Batman’s suits without actors Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in them.

While the teaser is the first official footage of Batman’s suit (and presumably the Batcave), the shot of Superman’s suit is merely a recycled shot from the scene in Man of Steel where Clark meets Jor-El. I rewatched that scene to confirm that, but another dead giveaway is the fact that the “S” emblem on the chest doesn’t have the extra lines in the middle that the new version of the suit does — which coincides with the more textured Batman v Superman logo — or the extra blue layer/border underneath the House of El emblem. Below the tweet, I’ve included a side-by-side comparison of the old suit featured in the teaser and the new suit so you can see those differences for yourself. Below that we’ve included screencaps from the teaser.

Daniel Radcliffe, the actor famous for playing the protagonist in the “Harry Potter” movies, is reportedly negotiating to play a role in the upcoming movie “Grand Theft Auto.” The movie is said to be based on the life of the creator of the video game series and his fight against a Miami lawyer, who wanted to ban violence in games.

“Grand Theft Auto” movie is slated to be released in 2016. According to HollywoodReporter Daniel Radcliffe is negotiating with the producers to be a cast member in the movie. The actor is said to be looking to play the role of Sam Houser, the president of Rockstar Games.

Rockstar Games is the company that developed the “Grand Theft Auto” game series. The company has also developed other popular games such as “Max Payne,” “L.A. Noire,” “Red Dead Redemption” and “Midnight Club Los Angeles.”

Sam Houser is said to be the man who helped make “Grand Theft Auto” one of the most popular names in the gaming industry. The report points out that although the franchise is considered one of the world’ biggest, it had done so while increasing the “violence quotient” in the games.

Opposing the violence in the gaming industry is the Florida based activist attorney Jack Thompson, who according to the report was disbarred in 2008 for “inappropriate behaviour.”  On his website, Thompson asks pertinent questions like how much adult content is there in video games these days and whether the current system of rating prevents children from playing such games.

The role of Jack Thompson has apparently not been cast yet. Daniel Radcliffe may be the first cast member of the movie, if the news is confirmed. The actor has been taking on varied roles since his “Harry Potter” movies. He has been a part of movies like “Robot Chicken,” “Horns” and will be seen next in the 2015 movie “Victor Frankenstein.”

Filming of “Grand Theft Auto” movie will begin on April 20, according to the report. The movie will be directed by Owen Harris, who has directed TV shows like “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” and “Misfits.” He has also directed the 2015 movie “Kill Your Friends.” This may be the first time that the director could get to work with Daniel Radcliffe.

J.K. Rowling Shuts Down Another Harry Potter Rumor

This time it’s about a supposed sex scene

J.K. Rowling shut down a rumor on Monday that she wanted Harry Potter to lose his virginity in the book, The Goblet of Fire.

A Twitter user posted a suggestion that Rowling had planned on adding in a sex scene in the second part of the book, but left it out after an editor complained it would bother parents. Rowling responded that she never wrote the scene, calling it “a load of cobblers.”

It’s not the first time Rowling has responded to rumors from readers. Rowling is very active on social media, frequently answering her fans questions and making announcements about her future work.

She made TIME’s 30 Most Influential People on the Internet list for 2015.

The project has been fast-tracked, with Lionsgate hoping to continue the blockbuster success they’ve had with The Hunger Games by focusing on further large-scale films. The project reportedly began when Erik Feig, the co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, pitched the idea to Lawrence in Paris while they worked on Mockingjay.

As well as directing three Hunger Games films, Lawrence also directed I Am Legend and Constantine; Peter Craig also wrote the script for The Town and is working on upcoming sequels Top Gun 2 and Bad Boys 3; and Nina Jacobson also produced One Day and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

The Homeric epic, which follows Odysseus on his journey home after the fall of Troy, has influenced the plots of films including Big Fish and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

25 FUN Facts about BACK TO THE FUTURE!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Robert Zemeckis’ time travel classic Back to the Future. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I can’t believe it has been thirty years since it was released in theaters. I still have memories of my parents taking me to see it. Over the years I’ve watched this movie countless time, and every time I see it, I enjoy the hell out of it. This film has never lost its flavor.

You might think you know all there is to know about this movie. I thought that before I started looking into it, and in the process I came to find out that there was a ton of stuff that I didn’t know. I have put together a list of 25 Fun Facts here for you to go through as a way to celebrate 30 years of Back to the Future greatness.

  • President Ronald Reagan was amused by Doc Brown’s disbelief that an actor like him could become president. Apparently he found it so funny that he had the projectionist stop the movie and replay the scene. The President also enjoyed the movie so much that he made a direct reference of the film in his 1986 State of the Union address saying, “As they said in the film Back to the Future, ‘Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.'”
  • The script was rejected 40 times before it finally got the greenlight.
  • Apparently producer studio head Sid Sheinberg did not like the title Back to the Future, insisting that nobody would see a movie with “future” in the title. He sent a memo to Zemeckis saying that the title should be changed to “Spaceman From Pluto”, so it would tie in with the Marty-as-alien jokes in the film. He also suggested other stupid changes like replacing the “I’m Darth Vader from planet Vulcan” line with “I am a spaceman from Pluto!” Sheinberg changed his mind after he got a response memo from Steven Spielberg, which thanked him for sending a wonderful “joke memo”, and that everyone got a kick out of it.
  • Most people know that Eric Stoltz was originally cast in the role of Marty before Michael J. Fox. They filmed for five weeks before everyone agreed that he wasn’t working out for the part. They ended up casting Fox, and he shot both Back to the Future and Family Ties at the same time. Every day during production, the actor drove straight to the movie set after he was done with Family Ties. The bulk of the production was filmed from 6pm to 6am to fit his schedule, with all the daylight scenes filmed on the weekends. Reshooting all of Stoltz’s scenes added $3 million dollars to the budget.
  • Thomas F. Wilson, who played Biff, almost had his collarbone broken in the scene where Marty and Biff are about to fight in the cafeteria. Apparently Stoltz roughed up Tom for real on every take, even after repeated requests from Tom to tone it down. Tom planned on getting back at him during the car park scene outside the dance, but Stoltz was fired before that confrontation could take place.
  • Claudia Wells, who played Jennifer Parker in Back to the Future, gave her role up to Elisabeth Shue for Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III because her mother was diagnosed with cancer.
  • Biff’s popular catchphrases “make like a tree and get outta here” and “butthead” were improvised by Wilson.
  • The film crew played a prank on Fox while filming the “parking” scene with Marty and Lorraine in the car. The scene called for Fox to drink from a prop liquor bottle filled with water and do a spit take when he sees Lorraine with a cigarette. during a specific take, the prop liquor bottle was switched with one that contained real alcohol. Fox, unaware of this, performed the scene and drank from the bottle, only to discover the switch after-the-fact. The full gag is featured on the “Outtakes.”
  • Ralph Macchio turned down the role of Marty McFly, thinking the movie was about “A kid, a car and plutonium pills.”
  • The inspiration for the film comes from producer Bob Gale finding his father’s high school yearbook and wondering if he would have been friends with his dad as a teenager.
  • Both Marty and Jennifer credit Doc as the originator of the saying “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.” The thing is, Doc never says the line once in any of the Back to the Future movies.
  • Doc’s hunched-over look in the movie was developed when the filmmakers realized the big difference in height between Lloyd and Fox; Fox is 5′ 4½” while Lloyd is 6′ 1″. To compensate for the height difference, Zemeckis used specific blocking where the two often stood far apart at different camera depths. For close ups, Lloyd would have to hunch over to appear in frame with Fox. The same approach was used in the two sequels.
  • When Doc Brown first sends Einstein “one minute” into the future, the time elapsed between when the DeLorean disappears and reappears is actually 1 minute 21 seconds, just as the reappearance occurred at 1:21am, and the flux capacitor required 1.21 gigawatts of electricity.
  • The 1985 version of Doc’s home is the same garage that Marty and Doc hide the DeLorean in 1955. In the opening scene an article shows that the mansion burned down years before, either for insurance money or due to an explosive experiment. The presence of the commercial development also implies that Doc sold the land surrounding the house for more money to fund his project. After all, he does state later that it took “many years and his entire family fortune” to build the time machine.
  • Billy Zane makes his first on-screen appearance in the movie as a character named Match, one of Biff’s cronies.
  • The time machine went through several variations. The first draft of the script featured the time machine as a laser device that was housed in a room. At the end of the first draft the device was attached to a refrigerator and taken to an atomic bomb test. Zemeckis said in an interview that the idea was scrapped because he and Steven Spielberg did not want children to start climbing into refrigerators and getting trapped inside.
  • Apparently in one of the original script drafts, Doc and Marty sell bootleg videos so they could make money to fund the time machine. This plot point was removed at Universal’s request, as they did not want to be seen as promoting movie piracy.
  • “A brief scene was cut in-between the scenes of the McFly family dinner and Marty being woken up by Doc’s phone call. It involved Marty preparing to send his demo tape to a record company. Marty decides not to do it, and leaves the empty manila envelope on his desk. In a scene that remains in the film, he goes to breakfast with the manila envelope sealed, suggesting he decided to send it in.”
  • John Lithgow, James Woods, Dudley Moore, and Jeff Goldblum were all considered for the role of Doc Brown.
  • Just in case you’ve never bothered to read the two red labels on the flux capacitor, they say “Disconnect Capacitor Drive Before Opening” and “Shield Eyes From Light.”
  • The backlot used as the town of Hill Valley is also seen in the first episode of Twilight Zone.
  • In the opening sequence, when Marty is turning on the electrical equipment to play guitar, the first switch has a label which says “CRM 114,” which is a reference to the radio equipment in Dr. Strangelove.
  • The “To be Continued” phrase wasn’t in the theatrical cut of the film. It was inserted into the end of the VHS release of Back to the Future, and was later omitted from the 2002 DVD release. “The cliff-hanger ending of the film was not originally intended to set up a sequel, but rather just as one last joke. It was admitted by the writer that had they originally intended the following two sequels, the ending would not have had Jennifer get into the car with Doc and Marty. This is why Jennifer was almost immediately knocked unconscious at the beginning of Back to the Future Part II.”
  • After the film was released, body kits were actually made so that people could make their DeLoreans look like the time machine.
  • “In the original script, Marty’s playing rock and roll at the dance caused a riot which had to be broken up by police. This, combined with Marty accidentally tipping Doc off to the ‘secret ingredient’ that made the time machine work (Coca-Cola) caused history to change. When Marty got back to the 1980s, he found that it was now the 1950s conception of that decade, with air-cars and what-not (all invented by Doc Brown and running on Coca-Cola). Marty also discovers that rock and roll was never invented, and he dedicates himself to starting the delayed cultural revolution. Meanwhile, his dad digs out the newspaper from the day after the dance and sees his son in the picture of the riot.”
  • I’ve included the original theatrical trailer below along with several deleted scenes that have found their way online.
