It never fails to blow my mind just how incredibly deep the game of Minecraft is. What on the surface seems like an adventure that’s all about exploring, crafting, block-building and survival has evolved into something that’s sophisticated enough people can build working computers inside the game itself. The world of iPhone games hasn’t been immune to the “can you make it in Minecraft” phenomenon, and we’ve seen versions of both Plague Inc. and Flappy Bird recreated inside Mojang’s masterpiece. However, this next one takes things to a whole new level. As noted by TUAW, a German Minecraft player has built a functioning iPhone-like device inside of Minecraft. Not only does the device “work” but it even has useable apps. Unfortunately, the following video is not in English, but I still found it impossible to turn off until I’d seen the entire 13 minutes.

I don’t know about you, but here in the Mystical Glade there are two things we love dearly. Legos, and Minecraft. And now there’s two great tastes, together!
Do you see those Minecraft Lego sets?! One of those is a set of The End, which is so freaking terrifying that I’ve never actually been to it in the actual game. No, seriously, anything having to do with that many Endermen has me running away and yelling “NOPE NOPE NOPE!”
The thing I’m curious about, however, is who this is supposed to appeal to. In many ways, Minecraft already is Legos in video game form. That being the case, the people who are most likely to buy these (people who play Minecraft) are also the same people who don’t need them (because they play Minecraft). If you want to build a fantastic house or entertaining scene out of blocks, you can just do it in Minecraft proper. There’s no need to build it out of Legos.
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m going to be buying each and every one of these Minecraft Lego sets, putting them together, and setting them on my work desk so that I can pretend I’m working. Really, I’ll just playing with toys. Which is totally unlike my every normal day. We’ll all be able to find them in November, just in time for the holidays. In the meantime, we’ll have to make due with the Micro World sets.

LIBERTY TWP – A video game was the runaway hit of this year’s Liberty Valley Book Fair, with students swarming over a series of books detailing tips for the popular video game “Minecraft.”
“Those are flying off the shelf,” said Laurie Hause, president of the Home and School Association, which is in charge of the book fair. “Minecraft” is a game which has players constructing their own buildings and landscapes in a virtual world. The books provide tips on where to find rare materials in the game world needed to construct its items and how to build different structures.
The books were equally popular among girls as boys.
“I was surprised how many girls were interested in it,” Hause said.
Every student at the fair is given a free book of up to $6, “to make sure each child is reading,” Hause said.
The book fair ran from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. The book fair’s family night, on Wednesday, had more attendees than the previous fair this past spring, Hause said.

Stanley Strum is spending his time in class today building a TARDIS, the time machine from the TV show “Doctor Who.”
“The machine pretends to be a telephone box, but actually it’s an infinite, ginormous, thing on the inside,” he explains.
Strum, a fourth grader, is building this TARDIS out of blocky pixels — kind of like digital Legos — in the world of Minecraft.
